UCL: Kayode Eyes First UCL Goal With Shakhtar Vs Lyon
Olanrewaju Kayode will be aiming for his first start in the UEFA Champions League this season when Shakhtar Donetsk battle Olympique Lyon for the second spot in their final Group F game at the NSK Olimpiyskiy, Kyiv stadium on Wednesday reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kayode who has been included in the matchday squad for the encounter has made two substitute appearances in the competition against Olympique Lyon on match day 2 and Manchester City, his former team on match day four.
The 25-year-old is yet to score this season in all competition.
In seven league games, the Nigerian international has not scored for Shakhtar Donetsk just as in two UEFA Champions League matches.
Shakhtar are third in the group G, two points adrift their visitors, Lyon but will be through if they win otherwise will drop to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 if they draw and Hoffenheim do not gain victory.
Kayode joined Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk on a permanent deal for 2.7 million pounds in July from Manchester City, whom he did not play a single match for before been shiped out on loan to Girona where he struggled before initially joining Shakhtar on loan.
In the same vein, Ubong Ukpai will be aiming to make his second UEFA Champions League appearance Viktoria Plzen host Roma on match day six. Ukpai has only seen 19 minutes of action in the competition this term.
He came on for Martin Zeman on his debut appearance in the competition in Viktoria Plzen’s 5-0 thumping in the hands of AS Roma in the reverse fixture.
Viktoria Plzen are currently third in Group G thanks to their superior head-to-head record against CSKA but they will clinch a UEFA Europa League round of 32 spot if they match the Russian side’s result.
CSKA also have four points from five games.
