EPL TITLE RACE: THE MARGIN THAT MIGHT HAVE DECIDED MAN CITY’S EDGE OVER LIVERPOOL

Read Time:1 Minute, 2 Second

Success can come down to fine margins, and that could well prove to be the case in this season’s enthralling Premier League title race.

Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory away to Burnley on Sunday courtesy of Sergio Aguero’s goal in the 63rd minute, which was awarded after goal-line technology was consulted.

Replays showed that Aguero’s effort went over the line despite the best efforts of Burnley defender Matthew Lowton.

There was initially uncertainty over whether Aguero’s goal would be given, but referee Paul Tierney allowed it to stand.

Aguero stated after the game that he knew the ball had crossed the line.

The ball was, though, just 29.5 millimeters over the line at Turf Moor, and City’s victory ensured that they returned to the top of the Premier League, going one point ahead of Liverpool with both teams having two games left to play.

Earlier in the season there was another close call that could prove to be crucial in the outcome of the title race.

During City’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on January 3, Sadio Mane came close to scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

City defender John Stones somehow managed to keep Mane’s effort out.
