HIGHEST PAID ATHLETE IN THE WORLD: CRISTIANO RONALDO FALLS BEHIND MESSI
Joseph Omoniyi
Messi has become the highest paid athlete in the world, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar behind.
According to the list released by Forbes magazine, which indicates that football is increasingly taking hold of the 100 Highest-Paid Athletes issue, Messi topped the pile for the first time thanks to his Barcelona salary and endorsements, picking up $127m.
Ronaldo comes in second with $109m, as his Juventus wage is $65m compared to Messi’s $92m in Barcelona, but CR7 has $44m in endorsements and La Pulga only has $35m.
Neymar is third at PSG with $105m total earnings, with boxer Canelo Alvarez in fourth on $94m.
Serena Williams is back in 63rd place after there were disturbingly no women at all in the top 100 for 2018.
