JUST IN: IKE EKWEREMADU BACKS OUT FROM ENUGU GOVERNORSHIP RACE
Ike Ekweremadu, the former Deputy President of the Senate, has resigned from the run for governor of Enugu State.
Ekweremadu declared he would not run for governor of Enugu State in the People’s Democratic Party’s primary election today.
This was said in a statement sent by his campaign organization on Wednesday morning.
Before announcing his withdrawal, Ekweremadu, who presently represents Enugu West Senatorial District in the Senate, was the state’s most prominent governorship candidate.
Senator Jim Nwobodo, the former governor of Anambra State, revealed on Tuesday that the Enugu East Senatorial Zone had chosen Dr Peter Mbah as the state’s next governor.
Senator Ekweremadu had also expressed support for Peter Mbah as Ugwuanyi’s successor, despite the governor having yet to publicly endorse anyone.
However, the Ekweremadu campaign organization quickly responded that it was incorrect.
On Wednesday morning, however, the campaign organization produced a statement headed “Senator Ekweremadu will not participate in the PDP primary election,” which appeared to be a new twist.
“I wish to inform our supporters and Nigerians that Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the former Deputy President of the Senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022,” said the statement signed by the Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, Hon Charles Asogwa.
Meanwhile, we continue to trust God while thanking our countless supporters and the wonderful people of Enugu State for their unwavering commitment to the realization of the “Pathway to a New Enugu State.”
“We urge them to be calm and assure them that we will keep them informed of our choice on how to proceed.”
