Nigeria Christian Graduate Fellowship has called on the Federal Government to strengthen security in the country after unidentified shooters killed over 35 worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday.
Prof. Chuks Eboka, the group’s national president, announced this on Monday in Benin, Edo State, adding that it is past time for Nigerians to demand proper government.
He said the group was outraged to learn of the latest massacre of Nigerians who went to worship God, adding that the killing must end and that no place in the country is secure anymore.
“The recent death has proved that security is deteriorating by the day, and the government must strengthen security in all corners of the country,” Eboka added. As a collective, we’re also taking use of this moment to demand decent governance.” We are saddened that there is no longer a safe haven in our land.
Nigerians can no longer go to church without fear, nor can they travel by car or train without fear. Every day, innocent lives are lost, and we ask President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene immediately to prevent the country’s plunge into chaos.”
The organization, which offered remedies to the problem, urged Nigerians to oppose any attempt to impose inept leaders on the country, noting that there is an urgent need for a return to true federalism and nationalism as was practised in the First Republic.
He stated that, because the current system is ineffective, a secure and equitable atmosphere must be created as soon as possible in order to conduct free and fair elections.
“A reworked Nigeria Eminent Personalities Team should be established up between now and the general election to figure out a way forward,” he continued. This would assist to quell the rising tide of unrest and instability and create an environment conducive to free and fair elections.
“If the degeneracy, instability, and social catastrophe continue to spread across the country, the National Assembly should take appropriate action by invoking the necessary provisions of the Constitution to save Nigeria,” he continued.
