PDP WILL REVEAL ATIKU’S RUNNING MATE WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS – IYIOCHIA AYU
Senator Iyiochia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed optimism that the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will present a running mate with whom Nigerians will connect and vote into office within the next 48 hours.
In his opening remarks at a meeting with members of the consultative committee established to help Atiku choose a running partner, Ayu provided this pledge.
He added that the meeting was held as part of a series of dialogues aimed at identifying a candidate that Nigerians would be happy to vote into power.
“Our party’s presidential candidate would have been here,” Ayu remarked, “but he dashed somewhere this morning.”
“He apologized and said he would join us if he arrived early.” However, we shall complete the task he has assigned to us.
“As the party’s administrative arm, we received a letter from the candidate regarding his choice of running mate.
“The NWC, Governors Forum, National Assembly, and past governors who have put forward their candidacy are all strongly represented in his committee.”
“My capable deputy, Ambassador Umaru Damagum, will preside over this deliberation.”
“I wish you a successful deliberation and I hope you come up with a conclusion between tomorrow and Friday.
“Our presidential candidate, this time, has decided to carry everybody along unlike 2019 when he didn’t consult widely in his choice of running mate.”
Aminu Tambuwal; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; former Senate President, David Mark; former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko; former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke; and Senator Philip Aduda are among those who have attended the meeting, which is still ongoing.
Parties have till Friday to submit the names of their presidential candidates and running mates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
