SALLAH: BUHARI URGES NIGERIANS TO REPORT CRIMES, SUPPORT SECURITY AGENCIES
On Saturday, Nigerians were advised by President Muhammadu Buhari to develop the habit of reporting criminals and anyone with criminal tendencies to law enforcement.
At his private residence in Daura, he offered the counsel to reporters immediately after he had gathered with his family to observe special prayers in remembrance of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir at the Kofar Arewa praying area.
He argued that Nigerians should aid the security services’ efforts by providing reliable information concerning criminals.
“I advise individuals to notify security agencies when they encounter crooks.” The nation needs true peace and progress.
The President added that Nigeria would have plenty of food to eat and export at the rate at which people were going back to their farms.
The speaker continued: First, we hope that the rainy season will be favorable and that our people will be productive. I believe when there is enough food for everyone, that is what matters the most.
“Look at how many people returned to the farm when we closed our borders for nearly two years and stopped the importation of rice; they didn’t regret it, and today we are able to feed ourselves and export some rice.” So this is my goal, and I’m succeeding in it. My main issue is that there are still those who gain significantly from robbing and murdering others.
I hope they will sit and reflect and make sure that they contribute meaningfully to the country.”
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which had earlier hosted some of the Katsina State-deployed members who paid him a Sallah visit, was credited by the President with contributing to national cohesiveness.
He claimed that the program had helped young Nigerians learn more about their nation.
The President stated, “It is really encouraging for Nigerians to see corps members being sent from other regions of the country to Maiduguri, Katsina, etc., and vice versa.” People from Lagos who had never left the island before the NYSC suddenly found themselves in Maiduguri, Sokoto, or this location. I believe it’s excellent for Nigeria.
“Nigeria is so vast culturally, ethnically and religiously, and we have to learn tolerance with each other.
“So, I congratulate you for coming here from the other end of Nigeria, from wherever you came; I wish you a successful NYSC camp.”
The President also gave the visiting corps members Sallah presents of one million naira and ten rams.
