Read Time:42 Second

Following a thrilling 2-1 victory over Botswana on Wednesday in Rabat, the hosts Morocco advanced to their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

The victory also guaranteed the Atlas Lionesses their nation’s first-ever spot in the Women’s World Cup.

After winning the quarterfinal match in Rabat, they were able to qualify in Australia and New Zealand the next year.

The win of the Maghrebians over the Mares was thoroughly deserved even though the crowd buoyed the home side with vociferous support at Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium.

The fans favourite was playmaker Fatima Tagnaout, who assisted in both goals to give her team the crucial victory that will go down in history.

With the win, Morocco are through to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Thursday’s match between Cameroon and defending champions Nigeria.
