UPDATE: NATIONAL GRID COLLAPSES AGAIN
On Wednesday, the national electricity grid has collapsed again.
According to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, the system breakdown happened at around 11:27 a.m.
“Dear clients, We regret to tell you that the national grid had a system breakdown at exactly 11:27 am on Wednesday, July 20. We are in discussions with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to find out what caused the collapse and to discuss a potential restoration schedule.
The Disco posted a message on its Twitter account on Wednesday saying, “We will keep you updated on the situation.”
This was the grid’s sixth failure this year since it was announced on June 13 that the grid had failed for the fifth time in 2022.
As usual, the collapse is anticipated to cut off energy to several areas of the nation.
Nigeria’s electricity grid had twice collapsed in March and twice more in April of this year due to the system’s fluctuating power generation as a result of several issues, including gas shortages, problems with water management, and gas pipeline vandalism, among others.
