DUE TO POLICE INVESTIGATION, HEADIES WITHDRAWS PORTABLE’S NOMINATIONS
By Adeniyi Onaara
The two nominations given to rising Afrobeats act Portable by the Headies Academy have been withdrawn, according to the academy. On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the news was released via the Headies social media channels.
Details: The Headies Academy’s choice was made necessary by Portable’s recent legal maneuvering in which he asserted that he is the leader of the deadly One Million Boys gang that tormented Lagos residents while the city was under lockdown.
Later, after receiving harsh criticism and sparking a police inquiry, Portable would dispute this assertion.
Should he lose either of the two categories he was nominated for, Portable has previously promised to kill other nominees.
The Headies Academy’s decision to withdraw Portable’s nomination means that he won’t be getting a chance to win the Rookie of the Year and Best Street Hop which he was nominated for.
