Etomike Ndigwe,  49-year-old lawyer, has been charged by police with forgery of public documents in an Otuocha Chief Magistrates’ Court in Anambra State.

Ndigwe is charged with three charges of forgery, conspiracy, and violation of public peace, all of which are punishable under Sections 443 and 115 of the Anambra State Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol. II Revised Law of 1991.

According to the resident prosecutor, Richard Okoti, the accused committed the crimes on June 29 in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

According to Okoti, the accused fabricated a street registration document and reportedly used it to contest the name of a street in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

He further claimed that the accused and others at large had acted in a way that was likely to disrupt public order by removing the name Dr Innocent Chidumebi Okonkwo road, which was posted on houses along the route.

According to him, no record of the said certificate could be found in the local government region.

The accused pleaded not guilty when the accusations were read to him, and the Magistrate, Mr M.I. Ogolo, granted him bail with responsible sureties.

The trial date has been set for August 5.
