INTERNET FRAUD: CORPS MEMBER BAGS TWO-YEAR-JAIL TERM IN OYO STATE

Adetuberu Adetoyese, a corps member currently stationed in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, was given a two-year prison term by Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin for offenses linked to computer fraud.
The court convicted 28-year-old Adetuberu on Thursday of the two cybercrime charges that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Command had brought against him.
The court was informed that agents of the EFCC recently apprehended Adetuberu at Ogele, a suburb of Ilorin, last Wednesday while acting on information on the activities of the fraudsters, also known as “Yahoo-Yahoo” within the Ilorin metropolis and its surrounds.
According to testimony given in court, the defendant is from Ilesa, in the Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State.
Sesan Ola, the attorney for the EFCC, further disclosed in court that the convict had confirmed over the course of the investigation that he entered “Yahoo Yahoo Business” in 2016 and had, among other things, used the proceeds of the illicit activities to build a property.
When Adetuberu was taken before the court on Thursday, he entered a plea of guilty to the two accusations that had been brought against him.
As a result, Justice Yusuf ordered that Adetuberu relinquish a three-bedroom apartment purchased with earnings from illicit operations, a Lexus car, several phone brands, a laptop, and other items used as tools of crime, as well as the sum of N921, 535.49 in his bank account, to the Federal Government.
The judge stated that the criminal’s conviction will serve as a deterrence to others and offered the convict the option of paying a fine of N200,000.
In a similar event, Justice Yusuf also sentenced Olayiwola Saheed, a 30-year-old aluminum fabricator who served as co-fraudsters’ “Loader,” to six months of supervised custody at the Federal Correctional Centre in Ilorin without the possibility of a fine.
Olayiwola, who was from the Olorunda Local Government Area in Osogbo, Osun State, was found guilty of one count of having money that was illegally obtained, as claimed by the anti-graft organization, in his possession.
The judge stated that the criminal’s conviction would serve as a deterrent to others and offered the convict the option of paying a fine of N200,000.
