One Edward Okache, has been arrested by men of the Ogun state police, Mowe division, for allegedly staging his own kinap.

The 23-year-old was detained on October 10, 2022, alongside Asamoah Ernest, Isiah Uti, Ephraim Anyijor, and Charity Lukpata.

According to reports, the suspects were detained in response to a report made by one Comfort Okache, who claimed over the phone that his younger brother, who had traveled from Calabar to Lagos, had been abducted in the Mowe area of Ogun state and that the kidnappers had demanded N10 million from the boy’s family in order for them to see him alive.

Following the report, SP Folake Afeniforo of the DPO Mowe division, assembled the tactical teams for the division and moved to the scene.

The victim was found in an unfinished building with the pair of Asamoah Ernest, a Ghanaian, and Isiah Uti, where he was tied in both hands and legs, after a long and exhausting search of the nearby bush in the Orimerunmu area.

The victim was saved, and the two suspects who were discovered with him were quickly taken into custody.

However, when they arrived at the station, the two suspects identified as Asamoah Ernest, Isiah Uti, made the surprising admission that the alleged victim was actually the one who conspired to kidnap himself in order to collect money from his parents to invest in an internet business.

They went on to say that the victim is fromĀ  Yala Local Government area of Cross River as them, adding that he was introduced to them by Ephraim Anyijor and Charity Lukpata who are also accomplices.

The confession made by the duo has however, gotten Ephraim Anyijor and Charity Lukpatan in police custody.

At the time of filing this report, all of suspects have admitted their involvement in the crime and have been sent to the state criminal investigation department’s anti-kidnapping squad for additional investigation and potential prosecution, under the direction of police commissioner CP Lanre Bankole.
