BREAKING: AFDB TO INVEST $20BN IN ELECTRICITY GENERATION FOR NIGERIA, OTHERS
By Adeola Abdullah
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced that it is investing the sum of $20bn into electricity generation in the Sahel region of Africa.
AfDB President, Akinwunmi Adedesina announced this at the closing ceremony (still ongoing) of the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) in Abidjan, the Cote D’Ivoirean capital.
Adesina said that the AfDB is looking towards renewable energy to propel Africa’s leap towards financial and economic independence.
He noted that solar energy will be deployed to generate electricity supply owing to the average 11 hours supply of sunlight that the region enjoys everyday, which is the highest in the world. He added that the solar panels to be used will also be constructed in Africa.
More details shortly.
