OJUELEGBA CONTAINER ACCIDENT: 9 DEAD, 1 INJURED – LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that a total of 9 persons died in the Container accident that occurred at Ojuelegba area of Lagos on Sunday
In a press statement issued on Sunday evening and signed by the Agency’s Director of Operations & Maintenance, Engineer Akinsanya Olatunde; he said “This afternoon, a 20 ft container trailer suddenly fell on an ill-fated mini-bus with 10 people on board.
“It took the tactical coordination of Lasema Operarion units at Onipanu and our primary stakeholders to rescue one female adult alive. She was attended to by the Lasema Pre-hospital care unit’s of Lasema Response Unit LRU.
“The remaining 9 victims were recovered dead, and their bodies had been bagged and handed over to SEHMU accordingly.
”
The final phase of the operation, which is purely Recovery, was equally led by Lasema using the heavy Recovery beast called Goliat. Whilst Lagos fire & Rescue was there to use hydrant flush the scene such no oil is seen on the road.
“Lasema appreciates all our stakeholders at the scene of the incident: Lagos Fire & Rescue, FRCN, Red Cross, Federal Fire, and Nigerian Police.
“Finally, the roads have since been opened for vehicular activities.”
The accidentĀ occurred around 12:45pm today between a 20ft container truck and commercial bus (korope) with registration no KTU 921YG.
A preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) revealed that the 20ft container truck lost control while ascending the Ojuelegba bridge and fell on a fully loaded commercial bus (korope) while on motion on Ojuelegba Bridge directly opposite Lagos Fire Service Station.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba however warned motorists particularly commercial bus drivers to always be very careful while driving along with any trucks either on top of a bridge or on an expressway across the State.
He however consoled with families of those passengers that died during the accident.
