AISHA BUHARI GOES AGAINST BUHARI, WANTS EXTENSION OF OLD NAIRA NOTES VALIDITY
By Farouq Oduola A.
The wife of president Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari has gone against the president as she hints at wanting the extension of naira note validity through a post on Facebook.
Aisha expressed her continued support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, in a picture post on her Facebook page. The post featured a picture of Tinubu and the phrase “Tinubu knows the way.”
With the post, Aisha has made it plain that she disapproves of the federal government and has contributed her opinion on what should be done regarding the country’s numerous financial policies.
The post reads: “old and new naira notes remain valid till 2023.
Suspend bank transfer charges.
Onboard fintech to support the banking system.
Mobilize banks and ensure adequate naira supply.
Implement public enlightenment campaign.
Create action committee to bridge note supply gap.”
The post also indicated that she disagrees with her husband, the president, who represents the Federal Government and authorized the CBN to enforce the policy, as she wants the old naira note’s validity date extended.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced, with the Federal Government’s approval, that the old N200, N500, and N1000 have ceased to be legal tender as of February 10, 2023.
The decision has caused a serious issue throughout the nation, leading certain states—Kogi, Kaduna, and Zamfara States—to file a lawsuit at the Supreme Court against the Federal government and CBN.
The apex court on Wednesday adjourned the suit to Wednesday February 22.
