JUST IN: THREE 40FT CONTAINERS FALL IN IKEJA, OJUELEGBA, AND MILE 12

On Friday, three 40-foot containers collapsed in various parts of Lagos State.

The occurrences took place in the state’s Ojuelegba, Mile 12, and Ikeja Underbridge neighborhoods.

A 40-foot container fell from a trailer on the Ojuelegba bridge inward stadium on Friday morning at around 6:55 a.m., according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. The agency reported that because the event stopped the whole main carriageway, traffic on the bridge was redirected.

LASTMA tweeted, “#Ojuelegba #RoadIncident A 40ft container fell off a trailer on Ojuelegba bridge inward Stadium blocking the entire main carriage way now. Diversion in progress thru the Ojuelegba service lanes.

“Men of the Nigerian Police Force are already on ground as mechanism for evacuation has arrived.”

The second incident took place in Ikeja Underbridge, close to the General Hospital.

The container dropped about 7 a.m., according to LASTMA, and had to be unloaded before recovery could begin.

The tweet read, “#RoadIncident. A fallen 40-foot container-laden truck fell at General Hospital under bridge Ikeja. It needs to be offloaded before recovery is done. Personnel fully on the ground managing traffic accordingly.”

Another container fell near Mile 12 of the Ikorodu expressway, the traffic management authority tweeted on Friday afternoon, adding that there is now no access to the service lane.

LASTMA also indicated that recovery activities are ongoing, noting that personnel were already on the scene. Additionally, it mentioned that no recorded casualties existed.

The agency tweeted, “A fallen 40ft container at Demurin junction inwards Ile Ile/Mile 12, there is no access through the service lane presently.

“Effort is on for recovery while our officers are on scene managing the situation effectively. No casualties recorded.”

However, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, again said on the same Friday evening another 40-foot container fell at the Ago Palace Way area of the state.

Making it the fifth report on Friday of containers falling in different parts of the state.

LASTMA Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said the latest incident occurred as a result of brake failure on the part of the truck.

He said the container crushed an SUV from the rear, but no life was lost in the accident
