IMO STATE FA CHAIRMAN CHALLENGES INDIGENES TO RUN NEXT ASSOCIATION BOARD
Long serving Chairman of the Imo State Football Association (IMFA) Amanze Uchegbulam has called on Imo State indigenes with passion for football administration and good networking capacity in business to come forward and run the next board of the association.
Uchegbulam, a former 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the appeal while announcing his intention not to contest in the forthcoming Congress scheduled for May, 2023.
“I have put in my best starting from the 1990’s, stepping aside in 1999 and returning in 2005. So, I am inviting our people to come forward and be part of the State Football Association.
“Elective Congress will hold in May and it is my appeal to Imo people who have the interest and passion for football administration to come forward. We need those who can use their reach in the business community to join hands to take football in the state to new heights “, declared Uchegbulam.
He disclosed that during his tenure, the state FA secured an office space and ensured a continuous organisation of the state league without Government funding amongst numerous other strides made by the state in football.
The seasoned football Administrator was part of the group with late Chief Oyuki Obaseki and former NFF President, Alhaji Sani Lulu, who fought for the autonomy of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and extracted it out of the NFF where it used to be a department prior to 2005.
He also served for years as a member of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee.
