FALCONS SEEK THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN VS N/ZEALAND TO END PRE-WORLD CUP FRIENDLIES
The Super Falcons are looking to record their third successive win in 2023 in Tuesday’s international friendly encounter with New Zealand at the Mardan Sports Complex.
The game will mark the Falcons’ last friendly game before the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia which kicks off from July 20 to August 20.
Last Friday at the Emirhan Sports Centre, the Falcons defeated Haiti 2-1 thanks to goals from Esther Okoronkwo and Asisat Oshoala, giving them their second consecutive victory under Randy Waldrum.
New Zealand, co-host of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, also played out a 1-1 draw with Iceland at the Mardan Sports Complex.
The nine-time winners of the Africa Womens Cup of Nations who had earlier recorded a lone-goal victory over Costa Rica at the 2023 Women’s Revelations Cup in February, will be desperate to compound the woes of New Zealand who are without a win since October 2022.
But speaking ahead of the game, Waldrum urged his team to build on the win over Haiti.
“The last 15 minutes of the win over Haiti was chaotic, we must have a plan and stick with it,” Waldrum said.
