IG ORDERS PATROLS ON HIGHWAYS, WORSHIP CENTRES IN PREPARATION OF ED-AL-KABIR CELEBRATION
In order to provide appropriate security for the duration of the Eid al-Kabir celebration, Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbedokun has ordered Zonal Assistant Inspector Generals of Police and Commissioners of Police to deploy people and equipment.
In order to have a smooth celebration, he also gave them orders to police main thoroughfares, hot spots, places of worship, and relaxation areas, among other places.
This was said in a statement sent out on Tuesday by Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Force.
The statement read, āThe IGP particularly directed the Zonal AIGs and State Command CPs to deploy human and other operational assets to carry out confidence building and crime prevention patrols on major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable points, places of worship, other places of public resort and around all critical national infrastructure devoid of harassment and extortion.
āThe Inspector-General of Police, while congratulating Muslim Faithful in the country on the occasion of the year 2023 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, restated that the Force would harness all available assets including relevant groups, associations, sectors, and synergise with other security agencies to boost its service delivery and stabilise general security within the nation. ā
However, he issued a warning to the staff members assigned to various tasks during the celebration to maintain order, act professionally, and protect the residents’ basic rights.
Adejobi reaffirmed the police’s commitment to reducing security across the nation.
āThe IGP assured the general public of sustained efforts by the force in tackling crimes and criminality and improved public safety and security across the country,ā he said.
