SEXUAL VIOLENCE: MAN ALLEGEDLY DEFILES 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT GUNPOINT
Agency Report
Idris Abdullahi, 39, was ordered to be kept in custody by a Makurdi Upper Area Court in Benue State on Friday after he allegedly defiled a 15-year-old under threat of violence.
The defendant, a resident of 39 Eri Street in North Bank, was ordered to remain at the Maximum Correctional Centre in Makurdi pending the state director of public prosecutions’ recommendation.
The magistrate rejected the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.
The case was put on hold until July 20 for mention.
The case was moved from C Division, North Bank, Makurdi, on June 27 to the State Criminal Investigation Department, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Veronica Shaagee.
Mr. Clement Gele of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Bank, Makurdi, reported the matter on June 25, according to Shaagee, who testified in court.
She said that Gele had informed her of the defendant’s alleged desecration of his grandchild as she was on her way to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Bank.
Child defilement, according to Shaagee, is illegal under Section 284 of the Penal Code, Law of Benue State, 2004. Makurdi.
