– Pleads Not Guilty to Possession of Firearm

Embattled suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail in the sum of N20m by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Emefiele is also to produce a surety in like sum.

The suspended CBN Governor had arrived at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos over charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition levelled against him by the Department of State Services (DSS)

He pleaded not guilty to being in possession of firearm.

He is appearing before Nicholas Oweibo, a vacation Judge at the Federal High Court Ikoyi.

His defense is led by a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Joseph Daudu SAN.

After Emefiele’s plea, Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), told the court that his client has been in detention for weeks. He also told Justice Oweibo that the application for bail has been filed and served on the prosecution.

The DSS however, raised objections to the court hearing the bail application, insisting that it has not been served.
