UPDATE: 21 DIE IN PLATEAU DAWN ATTACK
In the Plateau State local government of Barkin Ladi, unidentified individuals who are thought to be herders have murdered 21 people in the village of Heipang.
Captain Ola James, a spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, a multi-security taskforce responsible for keeping calm in the state, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the most recent incidence of attacks happened about 1:00 a.m. on Thursday.
After the incident, no fewer than 21 people perished and 13 were wounded.
He said: “There was an early warning signal that some bandits could launch attacks in the area which prompted the operation to mount checkpoints in the area but the bandits followed another route, and attacked the community. We have deployed our men to restore law and other in the area.”
In the past two months, Heipang village has experienced two attacks.
Two peasants were similarly slain in June 2023.
