
LASG ISSUES FLOOD ALERT FOR ETI-OSA, OJO, BADAGRY, IKEJA, IKOYI RESIDENTS
Residents in several regions of the state have received a new flood alarm from the Lagos State Government.
The state administration warned citizens to be cautious of heavy rain between August 14 and August 18 in a statement signed on Tuesday by Lekan Shodeinde, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources.
Apapa, Badagry, Eti Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, and Ojo people were advised by the state to get ready for extremely heavy rains that could cause flash floods throughout the rest of the week.
Based on a flood alert advisory released by the Federal Ministry of the Environment’s Flood Emergency Warning System (FEWS) Central Hub, Shodeinde asked all people in the mentioned locations to be cautious and aware of rainfall occurring during and after the times.
Additionally, he warned people living in flood plains and low-lying areas to prepare to shift to higher ground until the rains stopped.
He emphasized that pedestrians and drivers should avoid wading through floods, especially during rainstorms, since they run the risk of being swept away by the force of the water.
He continued by saying that the warning is now important to prevent the avoidable loss of lives and damage to property that typically results from such situations.
