PANIC AS ARMED MEN INVADE RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY GIRLS’ HOSTEL
In the early hours of Thursday, armed men allegedly broke into Rivers State University’s housing.
The armed men broke into the aforementioned hostel, which is just for ladies, at around 2:30 in the morning.
Eyewitnesses say that they broke down a wall at the hostel while carrying pistols and machetes, assaulting and molestation some of the guests.
Students have been protesting in the interim over the lack of security at the school during the incident.
The school gate was locked while they held up signs with various messages.
The PRO, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, of the Rivers State Police Command responded to the incident in the interim with a brief remark.
One of the girls claimed that they slashed her leg with a machete while displaying her wound.
The impacted dormitories have official security vehicles there as of the time of publication, although the school administration has not yet issued a statement on the situation.
It read, āThe Rivers State Police Command, having received a report of an armed robbery attack at the Rivers State University female hostel, the CP directed the DC Operations, Area Commander, Port Harcourt, and the DPO Nkpolu to provide adequate security on the campus.
āThe Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, has called for vigilance and urged students, parents, and the school management to take advantage of the Police Control Room numbers for reporting suspicious activities: 08032003514 and 08098880134.ā
