LASTMA DEBUNKS REPORT OF ALLEGED USE OF TOWING VAN TO STEAL VEHICLE IN LAGOS

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has reacted to a video making rounds on social media about the alleged use of LASTMA towing van to steal a vehicle in the Shomolu area of the state as early as 6am.

In a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq and seen by Hotjist, explained that the driver of the said towing vehicle was not an official of LASTMA as claimed in the viral video, while adding that, the driver has been arrested and detained at Pedro Police Station until investigation is over.

He noted that, the said towing vehicle driver, was discovered to have impersonated as on of LASTMA towing vehicle operator with a fake identity card and fake Franchisee’s sticker.

“The attention of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA has been drawn to a video circulating on social media alleging the use of LASTMA Towing van to steal a vehicle as early as 6am at Somolu area of Lagos.

“It is important to inform the general public particularly motoring public that the driver (Adejumo Fatai) has been apprehended and currently at Pedro Police Station for further investigation.”

“Investigations revealed that the arrested towing van driver (Adejumo Fatai) impersonated as one of the LASTMA Towing Van Operators with FAKE identity card and FAKE LASTMA Tow Franchisee’s Sticker.”

“The General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bolaji Oreagba however implores members of the public to be wary of these unscrupulous elements trying to dent the image of the Agency.”
