French footballer Karim Benzema has drawn criticism from all over the place after expressing his support for Palestine amid recent conflict with Israel.

France Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin has accused the former Real Madrid star of having ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organisation.

“Mister Karim Benzema has notorious ties, as we all know, with the Muslim Brotherhood,” said Darmanin on the CNews Network.

Karim Benzema recently called for an end to all bombings in the Gaza Strip in an Instagram post, defending women and children from any harm. He wrote: “All our prayers go out for all the Gaza inhabitants who are once more victims of unfair bombings that don’t forgive women or children.”

The Muslim Brotherhood, agroup which was born in Egypt in 1928 and founded by Sheik Hassan Al-Banna, was considered a reformist organization of the Suni leadership that set themselves two specific goals: to free the country from British oppression and take the power in Egypt in order to fill it back with Islamic values.

The Brotherhood became popular organizing charitable and social activities for the working and middle class. This program allowed religion to have a privileged place thanks to an education-based popular movement that was destined to guarantee Islam’s regeneration. A key investment in the eyes of Hassan Al-Banna, who was the main leader of this organization.

Darmanin wasnā€™t the only one to react to Benzemaā€™s post on X with strong accusations against the striker.

Speaking on the same TV channel, Nadine Morano ā€“ another French politician ā€“ also called the 2022 Ballon dā€™Or winner an ā€œagent of Hamas propagandaā€ shortly after he sent prayers to the people of Gaza.

ā€œJust by writing that, he is an agent of Hamas propaganda because Hamas has a strategy to physically destroy Isreal, but also to destroy Israel through international public opinion,ā€ Morano said.

Benzema also received harsh criticism from a colleague. Former Israeli goalkeeper David ā€œDuduā€ Aouate responded to the former Real Madrid starā€™s post with on five different languages with strong words.

The retired keeper, who played for the likes of Racing Santander, Deportivo La Coruna and Mallorca in Spain, wrote to Benzema in Israeli, French, English, Arabic and Spanish. The post has been flagged by the platform for possibly violating the social mediaā€™s rules against hateful content.

While Benzemaā€™s message has probably made the most noise, he was not the only soccer player who voiced his support for the inhabitants of Gaza.

Mouctar Diakhaby (Valencia), Hakim Ziyech (Galatasaray), Nabil Fekir (Betis), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), Ahmed Abdel Kader (Al Ahly), Musa Al-Taamari (Montpellier), Zakaria Aboukhlal (Toulouse), Aliou Dieng (Al Ahly) or Nassir Mazraoui (Bayern Munich) have also shown solidarity with Palestine.
