Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, has disclosed that the Federal Government plans to gradually eliminate the issue of out-of-school children that is afflicting the nation.

He said this while praising Umo Éno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, for the state’s infrastructure advancements related to basic education.

This was stated in a press release that the Government House Press Unit in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, provided to journalists on Sunday.

While giving a tour of the renovated Christ the King School on Wellington Bassey Way in Uyo, the minister—who was in the city for the University of Lagos 1984 Law Class reunion—made this observation.

In order to guarantee a comprehensive overhaul of primary education in the state, Eno stated that his goal is to duplicate the model school throughout the 31 local government areas. He also mentioned that teacher training will be provided in addition to the model.

He continued by saying that his administration is dedicated to promoting rural development and upgrading healthcare and elementary school infrastructure as a means of achieving this goal.

“I am passionate about the rural development but you also know that education is the foundation. Lack of education carries with it a lot of danger.  So our ambition is to see what we can do, not just the building. We will furnish it, train the teachers, ensure that we do a total facelift in our primary education.”
