OFF CYCLE ELECTIONS: IGP ORDERS DISTRIBUTION OF NEW VEHICLES, LOGISTICS FOR SECURITY MANAGEMENT
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered the distribution of an additional 220 operational vehicles, including water cannons, armoured personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, tear gas canisters, etc., to the three affected states to intensify security arrangements for the elections in an effort to ensure smooth electioneering processes in the upcoming off-cycle governor’s races in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday.
In order to raise the morale of the police officers during the operations, the IGP had previously planned trainings for the officers involved in managing election security for the upcoming elections and had requested permission from the Federal Government to pay their allowances and provide other essential support.
Since the police and other security agencies have been put on high alert to prevent any unruly acts capable of disrupting the elections in any of the states, the IGP therefore urges all stakeholders in the three states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, and be law-abiding in their endeavours before, during, and after the elections.
