Heartland FC attacker, Chidiebere Ajoku says the team is eyeing its first three points of the season against Bayelsa United in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday Eight tie on Wednesday in Owerri.

The Naze Millionaires are the only team left without a win in the ongoing 2023-24 NPFL Season but Ajoku in an interview with the Heartland FC Media hinted that they have put all their indifferent performances behind them and are eager to put smiles back on their fans’ faces with a home win against the Prosperity Boys.

“We have to come all out to claim our first three points at home this season. We are at a position we do not want to be on the table and it is just normal for us to fight for the points with all we have,” Ajoku told the Heartland FC Media.

“We have prepared very well and are motivated to deliver on Wednesday.”

Heartland FC are going into Wednesday’s game at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri with a four game unbeaten streak against Bayelsa United. The last time the Owerri side lost to the Yenagoa based team was on May 8th, 2013 a 1-0 defeat in Yenagoa.

Heartland had gone ahead to three successive victories over their Wednesday’s adversaries including the famous seven goal thriller in Yenagoa on May 31st, 2014 which the Naze Millionaires won 4-3. They also rattled the same team 4-1 with Ndubuisi Nkoro at his best in the game played on June 14th, 2015 at Owerri’s iconic Dan Anyiam Stadium.

The last encounter between both teams was on September 28th, 2015 in Yenagoa. Heartland FC got a morale boosting goalless draw.

Both teams are in almost the same form on the league table with Heartland FC failing to record a win from three home games with Lobi Stars, Katsina United and Rivers United. They however got a draw in Akure against Sunshine Stars.

While Bayelsa United have lost twice already at home to Lobi Stars and Remo Stars in the ongoing season despite parading one of the best marksmen in the league, Robert Mizo who is on six goals from seven games.
