FG SET TO REVEAL COMPREHENSIVE BLUEPRINT FOR THE ROLLOUT OF DSO – MINISTER
HM Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, has stated that his ministry is putting out great effort to present a plan for the implementation of the Digital Switch Over throughout the nation.
This was said by the Minister on Monday in Abuja when he opened the Nigerian Television Authority’s (NTA) Management Conference and Retreat.
āI also want to use this opportunity to restate federal government commitment to the Digital Switch Over (Project), as the Ministry of Information and National Orientation is working assiduously for a DSO blueprint that will not fail; that will roll out across urban and rural Nigeria. The NTA, as a key stakeholder in the DSO project, is expected to play a prominent role,ā he said.
Thus, Idris pushed the NTA to consider the ever-evolving media ecosystem, particularly in light of new technological advancements and shifting viewer tastes that present both opportunities and difficulties.
āOur commitment to excellence and adaptability is paramount. The NTA must continue to evolve, embracing innovation while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
āThis retreat is coming at a time when there is a growing number of options for the viewing public to source information from, more especially against the backdrop of the dominant role of social media and the preponderance of false and misleading information therein; therefore, the significance of an event of this nature cannot be overemphasized,ā he said.
He stated that the public’s viewing experience has been significantly impacted by the NT’s transition from standard definition to high definition and that, in order to accomplish the intended goal, this must be repeated in all NTA stations nationwide.
It therefore, according to Idris, “behoves the NTA to continue to enlighten Nigerians on the successes being recorded on all fronts and to ensure that Nigerians understand and appreciate the policy direction of the Tinubu administration in news and programming” in light of the President Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as Nigeria’s most ambitious socio-economic growth plan ever.
The Minister tasked the NTA with trying to resurrect its heyday, when its programmingāparticularly its renowned drama and soap operasānot only shaped the nation’s TV entertainment landscape but also consistently drove people home at night.
