FG COLLABORATES WITH UNIDO, OTHERS ON PLASTIC WASTE VALUE CHAIN
The Federal Government has said that it would collaborate with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to develop a sustainable plastic value chain through circular economy practices.
The Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health in the Ministry of Environment, Olubunmi Olusanya, disclosed this at a seminar on ‘Plastic Circular Economy with Case Studies’ on Thursday in Abuja.
The plastic circular economy case studies are part of the UNDO project titled ‘Promoting Sustainable Plastic Value Chains through Circular Economy Practices’.
Olusanya, who was represented at the Ministry by Mr Usman Abdullahi, raised worry over the increase of plastic waste in the environment from many sources such as packaging and storage of food, drinks, and beverages.
Plastic garbage, according to Olusanya, contaminates the environment, clogging drainages and causing flooding and the emission of hazardous gases when burned or incinerated, having severe impacts on human health and the ecosystem.
