JUST IN: 27 RIVERS ASSEMBLY MEMBERS DEFECT TO APC (PHOTOS)
By Sefiu Ajape
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly defect, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This however might have something to do with the state’s ongoing political unrest.
Following the October 29th burning of the Rivers State Assembly Complex, the crisis came into public light. In response, Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, was accused of masterminding the fire that destroyed a portion of the State House Assembly complex by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The rift among members of the State House of Assembly had led to some lawmakers commencing impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. However, the move was halted following the intervention of President Tinubu.
According to Enemi George, a member of the Assembly who confirmed the development, said the 27 lawmakers were under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.
He claimed that during their sitting on Monday, the decision to switch to APC was made.
