UPDATE: GUNMEN ATTACK PLATEAU COMMUNITY, KILL FOUR
Assailants in Gudum Village, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, have slain four people.
Residents of the village have said that the attack happened on Sunday night.
The village ward chief was the assailants’ intended victim; his house was set on fire, and his wife and kids were taken prisoner while he fled the scene.
But after killing four people, all of whom were men, the attackers were forced to leave the area by the intervention of Operation Safe Haven staff in response to a distress call.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang denounced the attack and ordered security services to capture the offenders so they may face the full force of the law, according to a statement made by Gyang Ber, Director of Press and Public Affairs.
The governor expressed his sympathy to the families impacted by the incident, calling it brutal and unacceptable. Women and children were stranded in two rooms until they were freed by security forces.
