UPDATE: SUPREME COURT SET TO DECIDE YUSUF, GAWUNA’S FATE ON THURSDAY
This Thursday, the Supreme Court will meet to discuss the appeal that Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) filed after the Court of Appeal upheld the Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling to reverse his election victory.
Baba Dantiye, the Commissioner of Information, confirmed this information to Channels Television. It has important ramifications for the Kano State governorship seat. The hearing is planned.
All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasiru Gawuna was declared the election’s winner by both the Appeal Court and the Tribunal.
In order to acknowledge Gawuna as the state’s legitimately elected governor, both judges ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return that had previously been given to Yusuf and reissue it to him.
But Yusuf, who took the oath of office as governor in May, went to the highest court to contest the rulings of the subordinate courts.
Dantiye stated, “The upcoming Supreme Court hearing is crucial in determining the election outcome,” in reaction to the impending session of the court. We look forward to the court’s ruling and pray for a verdict that maintains justice.
The state is anticipating the upcoming Supreme Court session with great fervour as interested parties look forward to the decision that will finally identify the legitimate governor of Kano State.
