2023 REPORT: LAGOS FIRE SERVICE RESCUED 376 VICTIMS, N152 BILLION WORTH OF PROPERTIES FROM DESTRUCTION
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said that in 2,537 fire incidents reported in 2023, the fire department successfully rescued 376 people, recovered 82 deceased victims of fire, and prevented the destruction of properties valued at an estimated N152.22B.
The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Mrs. Margareth Abimbola, revealed this at the annual staff engagement event held recently at Radio Lagos Marquee, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
Reiterating the Agency’s commitment to protecting Lagosians from fire events and related emergencies in accordance with the State Government’s THEMES Plus Agenda, she underlined the need for a coordinated effort and all-encompassing approach for successful fire incident management in Lagos.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, expressed his gratitude to the firefighters for their outstanding work in the previous year and declared that their enhanced welfare package had been approved.
He urged them to continue providing exceptional service to all state residents, noting that their accomplishments in 2023 were a testament to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s strong support for the agency and dedication to the welfare of its staff.
The awarding of hardworking officers in several categories was the highlight of the programme.
