The General Manager of Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike has reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to minimizing the number of illegal developments in Lagos State.

While overseeing the LASPPPA Monitoring and Compliance Unit during enforcement drills in the state’s Ikeja Area, Osinaike made this declaration.

Addressing reporters about the exercise, Osinaike revealed that allegations of blatant defiance of halt work orders and violation notices given to structures in the area were the reason for the area’s focus.

Osinaike urges owners and developers to adopt the practice of voluntarily adhering to physical planning permit laws, as it greatly benefits the public as well as the developers.

He said, “Voluntary compliance saves money that would have been used in paying penal fees on the side of the developer when apprehended and also ensures the safety of lives and properties, amongst others.

Osinaike urged everyone involved in construction to constantly try to get a planning permit, since these may now be obtained more quickly, thanks to authority reforms. He affirmed that, given the applicants’ submission of all required paperwork, including proof of tax payment, the authority will process the planning permit within ten working days.

The general manager praised the owners and developers who have already adopted the voluntary compliance culture and advised aspiring landowners to always check with the town planning office that is closest to the speculative land location before making a purchase, adding that itĀ wouldĀ allow them to receive guidance on whether the land is approved or not and avoid falling victim to con artists.

Osinaike went on to say that in order to improve its reach and increase the public’s accessibility to its services, the authority has expanded the number of its district offices.

In order to achieve a sustainable Lagos, he urged the people to work with LASPPPA and report any infractions of the physical permit laws to the authority’s headquarters or any of her district offices that are closest to them.
