COURT VOIDS N21.5BN MONEY LAUNDERING CHARGE AGAINST EX-CHIEF OF AIR STAFF AMOSU, OTHERS
On Tuesday, a criminal prosecution regarding alleged N21.5 billion money laundering against former Chief of Air Staff Adesola Amosu and two others was dismissed by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had re-arraigned the defendants on an amended 13-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N21.5 billion.
Justice Aneke on Tuesday upheld the defense attorney’s preliminary objection, which questioned the court’s authority to hear the case because the defendants were active military officials at the time.
It had contended that as the defendants were still officers at the time, they could only be tried by a court martial.
