EX-GOV IKPEAZU DENIES RECEIVING PENSION FROM ABIA STATE GOVT
Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Abia State, has claimed that since leaving office, he has not received a pension from the state.
Ikpeazu, who was among the former governors whose life pension was halted by the Abia State government led by Alex Otti, charged that the administration was indulging in “media sensationalism.”
The former governor was responding to the Abia State legislation that had been repealed, which had permitted pensions for life after leaving office for past governors and their deputies.
However, Ikpeazu claimed in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Onyebuchi Ememanka, that he had never received such a pension since leaving government.
He claims that since ceding his position as Governor of Abia State on May 29, 2023, he has never asked for nor accepted any money under any pretext from the Abia State government, and he has no plans to do so.
According to Ikpeazu, the reports that listed him as one of the former governors collecting pensions after leaving office were planted in order to give the wrong impression of him.
“Former Governor Ikpeazu has since moved on with his life and is currently engaged in other areas of interest to him and advises the Abia State Government and her various organs to face the business of governance and desist from engaging in needless media sensationalism.
“The general public should be properly guided, please,” the statement released by Ikpeazu’s spokesman said.
