GENERAL HOSPITAL EPE CELEBRATES WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY
In commemoration of World Oral Health Day observed globally on March 20, the General Hospital, Epe, joined other Oral Healthcare Providers across the globe to celebrate the day with the the theme, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Body.”
To mark the occasion, the Dental Department of GH, Epe, organised a health awareness talk within the hospital, with a special focus on pregnant women attending Antenatal Care.
The Head of the Dental Department of the Hospital, Dr. Christopher Elueme emphasised the historical importance of Oral Health and its benefits to the populace.
“The importance of Oral Health Day in the history of dentistry cannot be overemphasised as it is the day the world comes together to recognise dentists and their input. It is also an opportunity to create more awareness about dental education and its role in society”, Elueme reiterated.
He advised that the public should develop good oral hygiene by making sure to see their dentist every six months, eat healthy and follow instructions given by their dentists.
Delivering a health talk at the event, a Therapist, Mrs. Omowunmi Omosehin outlined the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, particularly during pregnancy when nausea may make brushing teeth challenging.
While stressing the significance of regular oral health check-ups, likening tooth pain to labour pain to underscore its seriousness, Omosehin also used the opportunity to demonstrate proper tooth care techniques, including brushing and selecting the appropriate toothbrush.
On her part, a Dental Surgeon with the Hospital, Dr. Afolashade Dada highlighted the significance of World Oral Health Day, noting its role in raising awareness about dental care globally.
She, therefore, cautioned against rushing to opt for tooth extraction, urging patients to explore alternative treatment options provided by dental professionals.
