…Charges Participants to Use Technology for Positive Change
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu (CON), has flagged off the Southwest Huawei Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women in Tech Training as part of efforts to empower women entrepreneurs with tech and digital skills for economic growth and development.
Addressing participants at the flag-off of the training programme held at the University of Lagos, Akoka, the First Lady of Nigeria, who was represented by the wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, stated that the training will equip women entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and resources to compete favourably in the technology world.
The First Lady stated that the training initiative, which is a partnership with HUAWEI, corroborates Sustainable Development Goal 5, which seeks to achieve gender equality, full participation of women and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making.
According to her, “The Huawei Women in Tech Digital Training programme is more than just a series of workshops, it is a symbol of the government’s commitment in bridging the gender divide in the digital world”.
The First Lady said that technology enhances efficiency, facilitates innovation, and improves quality of life in addition to its potency in driving economic growth and providing solutions to global challenges, in the environment, healthcare and governance, among other sectors.
She further reiterated that the Renewed Hope Initiative, conceived by the present administration at the federal level, is poised to positively impact the lives of Nigerians by bringing individuals out of poverty, educating them, and guiding them towards better lives for their families.
While congratulating all beneficiaries of the training programme across the South-West States, Senator Tinubu urged the participants to reaffirm their commitment towards creating a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and use technology as a catalyst for positive change.
In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Adeola Bali, pointed out that the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), championed by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (CON), covers different areas such as Agriculture, Economic Empowerment, Social Investment, Health and education, with the provision of meaningful interventions to various families across the country.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Deputy Director, Huawei, Mrs. Nihinlola Fafore, representing the Managing Director of the organisation, explained that the Tech Training for Women, which is a partnership programme between Huawei and the government, will run across all geopolitical zones as the first phase of the initiative covers states within the South-West Zones.
She emphasised that at the end of the training, participants will have in-depth knowledge and insight on technology, which will ultimately support their businesses, drive visibility and improve their income.
The flag-off ceremony had in attendance, the Representative of the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Obanisola Sadiq; the Executive Director, SAPPITAL, Mr. Chinedu Ogbeide; and various beneficiaries from the South-West State.
