The Oyo State Government has proclaimed Monday, July 8, 2024, a work-free day in observance of Hijrah 1446AH, the Islamic New Year.
In a statement signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information, the state government recognised the importance of Hijrah in the lives of its Muslim citizens.
According to Oyelade, Monday, July 8, 2024, has been set aside as a day without work to commemorate the Hijrah, which marks the Prophet Muhammad’s journey from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
The commissioner emphasised that this day is a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community. He called on all residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Oyo State and Nigeria.
