JUST IN: NASS MOVES TO STRENGTHEN NIMC POWERS
The NIMC Act No. 23 has been repealed and reenacted by the National Assembly as part of its efforts to enhance the regulatory role of the National Identity Management Commission.
A major legislative effort to improve the Identity Management System’s effectiveness and inclusion is the NIMC Bill.
This thorough and updated law includes multiple proposed revisions aimed at enhancing the Nigeria ID System’s efficacy and inclusivity.
The modifications aim to strengthen the NIMC’s fundamental structure and its functioning by broadening the list of individuals who are registrable.
A more thorough and inclusive identification system benefits the nation by enhancing national security, streamlining service delivery, and fostering financial inclusion.

Additionally, the bill seeks to simplify the exchange of personal data by implementing strong data security safeguards to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of individuals’ personal data and promote public confidence in the management of that data. Additionally, it strengthens NIMC’s administrative enforcement capabilities to guarantee prompt and correct adherence to ID registration regulations.
When the NIMC repeal and enactment bill becomes law, it will simplify the registration procedure, lower administrative barriers, and improve the Nigeria ID System’s dependability.
