MALANG SARR JOINS LENS FROM CHELSEA ON FREE TRANSFER
French Ligue 1 club RC Lens have confirmed that Malang Sarr has joined the club on a free transfer after his contract at Chelsea expired.
Sarr has now signed a new contract at Lens keeping him in France for the next two years.
It was clear that Sarr’s time in England had come to an end with Chelsea deeming the centre-back surplus to requirements.
The 25-year-old Sarr had looked close to joining Le Havre AC during the winter transfer window, however, Chelsea never sent the documents needed to finalise the transfer.
This left Sarr stuck at a club that was unwilling to play him. Le Havre’s sporting director, Matthieu Bodmer, called Chelsea’s actions at the time “shameful.”
However, this summer with his contract finally expired, Sarr was allowed to return to France where he will expect far more playing time.
He becomes one of the first signings of the new era at Lens under Will Still, with the club revealing in their press release that they are appreciative of his talents as a versatile figure who can provide the club with a bit more experience.
