CHAOS AT FEDPOLY EDE OVER EXPULSION OF STUDENTS

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

Following the expulsion of several students from the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has demanded the removal of the Rector, Dr. Sani Man Yahaya.

The student organization has given the institution’s Governing Council a seven-day ultimatum to dismiss him, criticizing his handling of a recent student protest.

NAPS leaders, including Southwest Zonal Coordinator Comrade Obasanya Monday Johnson, General Secretary Comrade Oladipupo Olawale Ridwan, and Public Relations Officer Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, expressed their disappointment with the Rector’s leadership.

On May 9, 2024, students protested at the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after some of their peers were arrested by the commission for alleged financial scams.

During the protest, some properties were reportedly damaged.

NAPS leaders are concerned that the committee established by the Rector to investigate the incident includes individuals whose properties were damaged, potentially leading to biased outcomes.

“Our investigation revealed that the committee established by the management to handle the case comprised individuals whose properties were allegedly damaged during the protest, raising concerns about bias and conflict of interest.

“In light of these developments, this act is considered unethical and a total abuse of power. We are left with no choice but to demand the immediate removal of the Rector. His leadership has failed to demonstrate fairness, empathy, and understanding, instead opting for punitive measures that threaten the academic and professional future of our colleagues.

“We hereby issue a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Ministry of Education and the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ede to remove the Rector, Dr. Sani Man Yahaya. Failure to comply will lead to a massive protest as we will mobilize our members to take action.

“We urge all stakeholders to intervene and address this injustice to prevent the disruption of academic activities.”
