NEWS: POLICE INVADE CDHR OFFICE IN LAGOS
The Nigerian Police’s incursion into the national headquarters of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDR), located in Ikeja, Lagos, has alarmed the organization.
According to a statement released by Comrade Debo Adeniran, National President of CDHR, and Comrade Idris Olayinka, National Publicity Secretary, the police besieged the Rights House early on Friday morning.
They reported that the police had barred building inhabitants from entering.
The message went on to say that the purpose of the police presence at Rights House is to halt the Education Rights Campaign Symposium, which was going to take place in the CDHR office’s main auditorium.
“The police were seen with several Hilux vans laying siege to the CDHR National Headquarters Rights House, preventing the participants from holding the programme.
“We, however, use this medium to call on the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to call these people to order from stopping a lawful and peaceful assembly.
“Otherwise, it will tantamount to gross violation of rights to peaceful assembly and freedom speech,” the statement reads.
