
10 DEAD, 40 HOSPITALIZED AS DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK HITS KANO
No fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead as a result of diphtheria outbreak in Kano State.
The state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, who confirmed the resurgence to newsmen in the state, said the persons died within a period of one week.
Dr. Labaran also said 40 other patients were currently hospitalized and receiving medical treatments.
The Commissioner further said it has activated diphtheria treatment centres in the local government areas across the state.
Also, he called on residents, who come across patients with the symptoms, to visit the centres instead of coming to facilities in the metropolis in order to curtail the spread of the disease.
According to him, “what we officially have is that we recorded 10 death from diphtheria outbreak in the last one week, from Monday till date.
“And as at this morning, 40 patients were on bed.
“We have activated diphtheria treatment centres in each of the local government areas across the state.
“We call on residents, who come across patients with the symptoms, to visit the centres instead of coming to facilities in the metropolis in order to curtail spread of the disease.
“The treatment is free of charge, nobody should charge them any kobo.
“However, other figures you have on the social media is not true. What we have recorded officially is 10 deaths,” the Commissioner, Dr. Labaran stated.
