REPS AIM TO IMPROVE SAFETY IN NIGERIA’S POWER SUPPLY SECTOR.
Concerns over safety and the usage of inadequate equipment in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) have been raised by the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations.
Dr. Suleiman Abubakar Gumi, the chairman of the committee, emphasized the House’s commitment to upholding industry safety regulations.
The Committee will organize a symposium with the Association for Public Policy Analysis to discuss safety-related issues and find answers. It has been determined that the electricity industry is a crucial domain in which regulatory regulations and safety requirements must be strictly adhered to.
Dr. Gumi pointed out that in order to plan, carry out, and uphold safety standards in the electrical industry, the federal government has passed legislation and created institutions. The goal is to guarantee the delivery of high-quality, safe, and secure energy services while minimizing occurrences like electrical accidents and vandalism and averting loss of life and property.
Issues like theft, illegal electrical installations, vandalism, and the use of inferior electrical materials still exist despite government attempts. As stated in Section 88 of the 1999 Constitution, the Committee’s oversight and investigation responsibilities will be strengthened by the impending conference.
The Committee hopes to protect Nigerian residents by ensuring effective legislative action and raising safety standards and regulations in the power sector by sponsoring this conference.
