PROMOTE UNITY OF NIGERIA, LAGOS GOVT URGES CORP MEMBERS

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has enjoined members of the National Youth Service Corps to utilise their period of service in promoting the unity of Nigeria through their activities and conduct.
The Governor, represented by Honourable Commissioner forf Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, said this at the Closing Ceremony of 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation exercise held today at NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja.
In his words, “I would also like to remind you of the primary objective of the National Youth Service Corps to promote unity among the diverse ethnic groups of our great nation through its vibrant youth. Therefore, strive to live in peace with those around you ensuring that this goal is upheld in your host communities”.
In the same vein, Special Guest of Honour, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, in his goodwill message, advised the youth corpers to uphold the values of NYSC which are geared towards fostering unity among the diverse groups in Nigeria.
“As future leaders of Nigeria, you are starting a journey that will see you to the peak of your ambition. I enjoin you to be accommodating, and law-abiding and live in unity with your host communities. This trying time definitely is challenging but it will not last forever. Don’t give up. There is hope for every one of us in Nigeria. Avoid unnecessary travelling and use your NYSC period to lay the foundation for your future”, he said.
Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa disclosed that the corpers were taken through a well-structured programme including Citizenship and Leadership Training, Paramilitary Drills, Martial Arts, motivational lectures, social activities, inter platoon competitions and lectures on self-actualization and development, most especially the Skill Acquisition Programme aimed at empowering them for self-independence amidst the challenges and dearth of white collar jobs.
Baderinwa urged the 3104 Corps members, who participated in the three weeks orientation course exercise, to accept their posting to their Places of Primary Assignment in good faith and put in their best.
