NASARAWA TO HOLD LG ELECTION NOVEMBER 2

The 13 local government districts in the state will hold local government elections on Saturday, November 2, 2024, according to preparations finalized by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission.

Ayuba Wandai-Usman, the chairman of NASIEC, revealed this information on Wednesday at a news conference in Lafia.
Both the leadership and council member posts are up for election.

The elected officials of Nasarawa are nearing the conclusion of their three-year tenure; the most recent local government elections were held in October 2021.

Wandai-Usman reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to working with the media to improve Nasarawa State’s and Nigeria’s overall democratic processes.

“The chairmanship and councillorship elections will be held on Saturday, 2nd November 2024. Nomination papers for the elections are to be submitted at the commission’s headquarters, Democracy House, Shendam Road, Lafia,” he said.

The election schedule, which includes party primaries and dispute settlement, is scheduled to start on Friday, October 11, 2024, according to the NASIEC chairman.

The final list of candidates to be nominated is expected to be published on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Political parties are expected to begin their campaigns for the chairmanship and councillorship elections on Friday, October 18, 2024.

Wandai-Usman called on the citizens of Nasarawa to support the commission by turning out in large numbers to participate in the elections. He also urged residents to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly before, during, and after the polls, stressing the importance of maintaining law and order throughout the process.
